Becky and the Robber
of Buckhorn Ridge

an historical children's story set in 1840 Valleytown

Authored by Jean Bravick, Becky and the Robber of Buckhorn Ridge reveals much about the post-Removal era in Cherokee County, NC. The adventures of the story’s early pioneer, Scottish immigrant and Cherokee Indian children captivate the reader- and offer important lessons for children of all ages.

Jean Bravick enjoys her part-time residence in Cherokee County, and was a terrific volunteer at the Heritage Walk & Festival in 2002 and 2003. She kindly offered her children's story to Heritage Partners for publication, and the organization considered it a privilege to help make this important work available to the children of our community.

The story has been illustrated by local area artist and volunteer Linda Miller. Grant awards from the Cherokee County Community Foundation and the Wal-Mart GoodWorks Foundation, together with funds raised by Heritage Partners at this year's Heritage Walk & Festival, made it possible to get the story published.
